The Emergency and Trauma (ERT) Centre at Saint George Hospital University Medical Centre (SGHUMC), devastated in the 2020 Beirut Port explosion, has officially reopened after full reconstruction supported by a $2.36 million grant from The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF), a Sharjah-based humanitarian organization. The restored facility features state-of-the-art medical equipment, an expanded trauma care unit, and a new paediatric section, enabling it to serve over 40,000 patients annually. This milestone marks a major achievement under TBHF’s “Salam Beirut” campaign, launched by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi in response to the blast.Speaking at the inauguration, TBHF Director H.E. Alya Al Musaiebi emphasized the long-term humanitarian vision behind the project. SGHUMC’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Joseph Wehbe, hailed the reopening as a “restoration of hope” for Beirut.
The project reflects Sharjah’s enduring solidarity with Lebanon and a commitment to restoring essential healthcare infrastructure following one of the country’s worst disasters.
