Dubai: On June 9, the first day schools reopened after the Eid Al-Adha holidays, a school bus accident in Dubai resulted in injuries to 13 students and one teacher. The accident occurred around 3 PM on the Dubai National Highway E311, in the direction from Ajman to Sharjah, when two school buses collided while students were returning home. The injured children, aged between 6 and 12, are all Pakistani nationals.Authorities reported that the National Ambulance was alerted at 3:11 PM, and an emergency medical team arrived at the scene within 13 minutes to begin rescue operations. The injured were promptly taken to hospitals—three students were admitted to Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah, and the remaining were taken to Khalifa Hospital in Ajman. The students admitted to Al Qassimi Hospital have since been discharged. This incident follows a similar school bus accident in February, which left three students and two supervisors injured, and a tragic incident in August, where a 7-year-old child died and 11 others were injured after an unlicensed transport vehicle crashed. In response to such incidents, UAE authorities have implemented strict road safety regulations. Violations can lead to fines of up to AED 200,000. Specialized training is mandatory for school bus drivers, and transport companies and school bus operators in Dubai are held accountable for compliance. In Sharjah, over 2,000 school buses have been equipped with safety cameras and monitoring devices, allowing parents to track their children’s journeys in real-time, enhancing student safety and parental peace of mind.
