Dubai: The Association of Kerala Medical & Dental Graduates (AKMG Emirates), in collaboration with the Indian Consulate in Dubai, is launching its summer social outreach initiative — the “Beat the Heat” Heat Stroke Awareness Campaign — to address the rising risks of heat-related illnesses among outdoor workers during the intense UAE summer. The campaign will be formally inaugurated on Sunday, June 15, at the DIP labor camp in Dubai by Mr. Pabitra Kumar Majumdar, Labour Consul at the Indian Consulate.
The primary aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses, particularly among laborers who work in open, high-temperature environments. It will also promote preventive measures, safety practices, and improved working conditions to reduce the health risks associated with extreme heat. Over the next 15 weeks, the campaign will cover multiple labor camps and workplaces across the UAE.“Since its inception in 2003, AKMG Emirates has remained committed to addressing the healthcare needs of the community. With soaring temperatures, raising awareness about heatstroke is both urgent and highly relevant,” said Dr. Sugu Malail Koshi, President of AKMG Emirates. “We are grateful for the support from the Indian Consulate, which enhances the reach and impact of this public health initiative.”
Each session of the “Beat the Heat” campaign will include:
• Educational talks on heat safety
• Distribution of awareness materials
• Opportunities for workers to interact with medical professionals from various specialties
“This initiative aligns with the UAE Government’s ‘Year of the Community’ theme and contributes to building a more caring and aware society,” added Dr. Nitha Salam, Chief Organizer of the campaign.
