Abu Dhabi: The UAE has declared June 27 as a paid holiday for employees in the private sector to mark the Islamic New Year. The holiday commemorates the beginning of Hijri year 1447.For employees with a Saturday-Sunday weekend, this holiday will result in a three-day long weekend from June 27 to 29, with work resuming on June 30.Employees in the public sector will also receive a similar holiday. As per the UAE’s unified holiday policy, all employees in both public and private sectors are entitled to equal official holidays throughout the year.This is the next major holiday after the Eid Al-Adha break earlier this June. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and is applicable to all private sector workers in the country.
The Islamic or Hijri calendar is based on lunar months, with Muharram being the first month. The date was confirmed in accordance with the official list of UAE public holidays for 2025.
