Ahmedabad,: In a deeply moving gesture, UAE-based philanthropist Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil has fulfilled his ₹6 crore aid pledge to support the families of victims and the injured from the Air India Flight 171 crash. The cheques were handed over in a private ceremony at BJ Medical College, as classes resumed for the first time since the tragedy.Families of four deceased medical students received ₹1 crore each, while six others who lost family members were given ₹25 lakh per loss. Additionally, 14 severely injured individuals, including students and residents, received ₹3.5 lakh each.

Representatives from VPS Healthcare delivered the aid in the presence of college officials and the Junior Doctors Association. A solemn prayer was held afterward, marking a day of grief, healing, and solidarity.“This support means more than money—it’s a sign that the medical community cares,” said Dr. Shekar Parghi of the Junior Doctors Association.
