Dubai : In a significant move to improve mobility and enhance safety, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed three major traffic improvements in the Business Bay area. The upgrades are aimed at streamlining vehicle movement and supporting the growing demands of one of the city’s most dynamic districts.Business Bay, a hub of residential, commercial, and leisure activities, has long been a focal point for infrastructure development. The latest enhancements target congestion hotspots and improve connectivity with major arterial roads such as Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The most notable change includes converting the street parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road from a two-lane, two-way configuration to a one-way dual roadway. This transformation, supported by new signage and road markings, has effectively doubled the street’s capacity, reduced conflict points, and significantly improved safety and traffic flow.At the intersection of Al Mustaqbal Street and Al Khaleej Al Tejari 1 Street, a 100-metre-long right-turn storage lane was introduced, increasing turning capacity toward First Al Khail Street by 50%. The move has led to shorter waiting times and reduced congestion at a busy junction that sees heavy daily traffic.

Further enhancements include reorganising the service road adjacent to Al Mustaqbal Street near the tower cluster. An extra lane was added to accommodate increasing traffic volumes, resulting in a 50% boost in road capacity and a marked reduction in vehicle conflicts.Another critical upgrade involved widening the entry point to the canal bridge on Al Mustaqbal Street heading toward First Al Khail Street. The entry was expanded from one lane to two, doubling its capacity and easing traffic pressure during peak hours.
“These improvements are part of RTA’s long-term strategy to enhance road infrastructure across Dubai in line with population growth and urban expansion,” the authority said in a statement. “The upgrades are designed to ensure smoother journeys, better safety, and a more efficient road network for all users.”The project underscores RTA’s ongoing commitment to making Dubai’s roadways smarter, safer, and more responsive to the evolving needs of residents, commuters, and businesses.
