Sharjah: Dr. Sunny Kurian, a native of Kuravilangad in Kottayam, has been honored with the prestigious Sharjah Excellence Award. The award was presented by Sharjah Deputy Ruler Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi at a ceremony held at the Sharjah Expo Centre. Dr. Kurian was the only Indian among the 17 recipients selected this year.A pediatrician who has been serving in Sharjah for the past 36 years, Dr. Kurian recently shifted his focus from pediatrics to geriatrics, offering integrated care combining modern medicine and traditional treatments under the brand Sunny Wellness.

In previous years, his clinic — Dr. Sunny’s Clinic — had twice received the Excellence Award from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce. This year, the recognition was awarded personally to him for his outstanding contributions to the healthcare sector.The Sunny Group currently operates medical centers and pharmacies across multiple emirates in the UAE.

Dr. Kurian dedicated the honor to all Indians and Malayalis, stating that the award is a recognition of the wider community.
He is married to Dr. Meera Gopi Kurian. Their daughters are Dr. Swetha Kurian and Shikha Kurian. He is also the son-in-law of former Kerala Finance Minister K.M. Mani, through his marriage to Mani’s granddaughter.
