Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a major infrastructure project to improve Al Safa Street between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Wasl Street, as part of a broader master plan to enhance Umm Suqeim and Al Wasl Streets.
The Dh project includes two new bridges and two tunnels, spanning a total of 3,120 metres, and the widening of Al Safa Street to handle 12,000 vehicles per hour — doubling its current capacity. Travel time along the stretch will be cut from 12 minutes to just 3.RTA Director-General Mattar Al Tayer said the project will serve key areas including City Walk, Coca-Cola Arena, and surrounding residential and commercial zones.

The initiative also includes pedestrian walkways, cycling tracks, landscaped areas, and vibrant public spaces. Two major bridges will handle traffic from Al Wasl and Al Satwa Roads to Sheikh Zayed Road and Financial Centre Street, while the tunnels will improve flow in the opposite direction. The project is part of a wider plan that also includes a 15-km upgrade to Al Wasl Street and a 6-km upgrade to Umm Suqeim Street. Once complete, connectivity between Dubai’s major roads — Sheikh Zayed, Al Khail, Mohammed bin Zayed, and Emirates Road — will be significantly enhanced.
