Dubai: Aster Hospital Mankhool, ranked among the top hospitals in the UAE by Newsweek 2025, has successfully treated a rare and potentially fatal congenital heart defect in 14-year-old Sudanese boy, Masin Muntasir Hassan.Masin was admitted with symptoms of extreme fatigue, dizziness, and high blood pressure—rare in teenagers. After detailed tests, he was diagnosed with Aortic Coarctation (CoA), a congenital narrowing of the aorta that had gone undetected since birth. Typically identified in infancy or early childhood, such late diagnoses are extremely rare and can lead to severe complications if left untreated.Led by Dr. Naveed Ahmed, Head of Cardiology at Aster Hospitals & Clinics UAE, a multidisciplinary team opted for a minimally invasive coarctoplasty with stent placement, avoiding open-heart surgery. The procedure was performed through the femoral artery and achieved excellent results.
Post-surgery, Masin’s blood pressure normalized and he began regaining his energy. Doctors expect him to return to full physical activity within 4–6 weeks. “Before treatment, I couldn’t even play like other kids. Now I feel like I’ve gotten my life back,” Masin said, expressing heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Naveed and the entire team.Masin’s case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and showcases Aster Hospital Mankhool’s advanced capabilities in managing rare congenital heart conditions with cutting-edge technology and compassionate care.
