Dubai,: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed the upgrade of 22 public bus stations and depots across the emirate, reinforcing its commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and integrated mobility solutions for residents and visitors. The initiative is part of RTA’s strategic plan to expand the public transport network and improve service quality.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, stated that the project reflects RTA’s dedication to developing public transport infrastructure and encouraging the use of mass transit. “The upgrades ensure that bus stations serve as more than just waiting areas. They now offer integrated services to enhance passenger experience, particularly for People of Determination and cyclists, with seamless connectivity to Dubai Metro and taxis,” Al Tayer said.

Upgraded Stations and Depots
The comprehensive project involved upgrading 16 passenger stations—nine in Deira and seven in Bur Dubai—serving 110 bus routes with a combined peak-hour capacity of 710 buses. Enhancements included renovated waiting areas, modernised infrastructure, improved façades, better pedestrian pathways, and the addition of prayer rooms at select stations. In addition, six key bus depots in Al Khawaneej, Al Qusais, Al Ruwayah, Al Awir, Jebel Ali, and Al Quoz were upgraded. The work included modernising workshops, enhancing maintenance lanes, installing engine washing systems, improving lighting and drainage networks, and upgrading driver accommodation and security systems.
Focus on Integration and Accessibility
The project is a major step toward RTA’s broader vision of strengthening integration between various public transport modes. It supports first and last-mile connectivity by improving access to stations via pedestrian paths, bicycle parking, and safe crossings—encouraging sustainable travel options. The latest upgrades complement earlier developments of major bus stations at Al Ghubaiba, Union, Al Jafiliya, Oud Metha, Al Satwa, Etisalat, Al Baraha, International City, and Dubai International Airport Terminal 3.

Expanding the Modern Bus Fleet
RTA also continues to invest in a world-class bus fleet that complies with European “Euro 6” low-emission standards—the first in the MENA region. As part of its ongoing fleet expansion, RTA has signed a contract to procure 637 new buses to be delivered in 2025 and 2026. The new fleet includes:
• 40 electric Zhongtong buses (12m, 72 passengers) tailored to Gulf conditions—the largest zero-emission bus contract in the UAE.
• 400 MAN city buses (12m, 86 passengers) and 51 Zhongtong city buses (12m, 72 passengers).
• 76 VOLVO double-decker buses (13m, 98 passengers).
• 70 Isuzu Anadolu articulated buses (18m, 111 passengers) for high-density urban routes.
These advanced buses are equipped with modern safety features and comfort-focused interiors to meet growing mobility needs across Dubai.
