Dubai: Can you drive for a whole day without causing an accident? If you can, there’s a reward waiting for you — a reduction of four black points from your driving licence. As part of efforts to make roads safer ahead of the new school term, the UAE Ministry of Interior has declared August 25 as “Accident-Free Day.” On this day, drivers who avoid causing any accidents will have four black points removed from their licence. The initiative, supported by all police stations across the country, comes as students prepare to return to school after the summer break. While traffic is currently lighter, it is expected to double once schools reopen, increasing the risk of accidents. The campaign aims to remind drivers to be extra cautious and strictly follow traffic laws, especially near schools. Drivers wishing to benefit from the black point reduction must register on the Ministry of Interior’s (MOI) website, pledging to drive safely, follow all traffic rules, and avoid causing accidents on August 25. If they succeed, the reduction will be applied by September 15.

No in-person visits are required for registration. The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote road safety and raise awareness about traffic law violations.Federal Traffic Council Chairman Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi stressed the importance of wearing seat belts, adhering to speed limits, maintaining a safe distance between vehicles, avoiding distractions such as mobile phones, and giving way to emergency and official convoys.
