Kolkata:Speaking at the 75th Foundation Day of IIT Kharagpur, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani warned that modern warfare has shifted from trenches to technology, urging India to break free from its deep dependence on foreign tech and energy.

“In today’s world, wars are fought in server farms with algorithms, not guns,” Adani said, calling the current era India’s “second freedom struggle” — one driven by innovation, data control, and technological self-reliance.

Highlighting vulnerabilities, he noted that India imports 90% of its semiconductors and 85% of its oil, making it susceptible to global disruptions. “We may be politically independent, but technologically we remain dependent,” he cautioned.

Adani called on educational institutions to produce not just skilled graduates but “brilliant patriots,” and urged the private sector to invest more in R&D, advanced materials, AI, and deep tech.

“Empires are now built in data centres. Future disruptors will be more powerful than many nations,” he said, urging urgent action to secure India’s digital future.
