Dubai, UAE – A woman from Neerchal in Kannur, Kerala, has been awarded AED 1 million (approximately ₹2.37 crore) in compensation after being severely injured in a road accident in Dubai.
The victim, Rahmath Bee Mammath Salih, was hit by a car driven by a UAE national on April 24, 2023, while crossing the road at an undesignated area near the Bangladesh Consulate in Al Wahda, Dubai. She sustained serious injuries, including a brain hemorrhage, spinal fractures, and paralysis.
In the related criminal case, the driver was fined AED 3,000, while Rahmath was fined AED 1,000 for crossing the road improperly. Subsequently, with the legal support of YAB Legal Services CEO, Salam Pappinisseri, Rahmath filed a compensation claim in court.
Taking into account the severity of her injuries, the court directed the insurance company to pay AED 1 million in damages. Appeals filed against the ruling in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court were later dismissed, thereby upholding the compensation award.
This ensured that Rahmath Bee successfully secured the compensation, marking a significant legal victory in her fight for justice
