Dubai : In a bid to reduce congestion and improve access to Dubai International Airport, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a major new infrastructure development project. The plan focuses on expanding the bridge leading to Terminal 1, in collaboration with Dubai Airports.
As part of the project, a new bridge will be constructed alongside the existing three-lane bridge, which will be upgraded to four lanes, increasing the road capacity by 33%. This enhancement will boost the number of vehicles that can pass through from 4,200 to 5,600 vehicles per hour, significantly easing traffic flow and reducing travel times during peak hours.

RTA Director-General Mattar Al Tayer stated that the initiative is designed to improve road efficiency and enhance the overall travel experience for airport passengers. The project will include the construction of a 171-meter-long bridge, including ramps, using advanced construction technologies that ensure rapid execution without disrupting existing traffic.
“This development will enhance safety, streamline traffic flow, and ensure passengers reach the airport more easily and quickly,” said Al Tayer.

The project comes in response to a sharp rise in airport usage, with Dubai International Airport welcoming over 92 million passengers in 2024. To accommodate this growth, the plan also includes upgraded road surfacing, installation of new street lighting, and modernization of infrastructure in the surrounding areas.
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly ease pressure on airport routes, improve road user experience, and support Dubai’s vision of world-class infrastructure to meet the demands of a rapidly growing global hub.
