Ras Al Khaimah is set to launch a massive infrastructure project on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road (E11), with road closures coming into effect from Monday, September 1. The initiative, announced by the emirate’s Department of Public Services, aims to ease traffic flow and enhance connectivity across the region.
The development stretches from Al Hamra Roundabout to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311). It forms part of a wider plan to expand both the road and utility networks in Ras Al Khaimah.
🔹 Stage One
- Widening the highway from two lanes to four in each direction.
- Creation of a dedicated service road to improve local traffic movement.
- Upgrading essential utilities including electricity, telecom, irrigation, and rainwater drainage.
- Installation of modern LED lighting poles.
- As part of the traffic diversion plan, sections of E11 at Al Hamra Roundabout will be closed. Vehicles will be redirected via alternative routes, supported by a newly built 2 km temporary road.
🔹 Stage Two
- Completion of road widening.
- Construction of major traffic improvement structures at four key locations:
• Dolphin Junction (S4)
• E11–E311 Junction (D1)
• The Red Tunnel (S3)
• Mina Al Arab Tunnel (F1/F2) - Diversions will remain in place with additional lanes added to ease congestion.
According to the Department of Public Services, the project is designed to meet the demands of Ras Al Khaimah’s rapidly growing population while supporting the emirate’s long-term urban development goals through a modern and efficient road network.
