Dubai: Commuters battling rush-hour traffic in the city now have a faster and more flexible option. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the introduction of three new direct routes on the Dubai Metro Red Line during peak hours, designed to ease congestion and cut travel times for thousands of daily riders.
New Routes to Ease Rush-Hour Pressure
Starting immediately, the Red Line will operate on the following direct routes:
- Centrepoint Station to Life Pharmacy Station
- Centrepoint Station to Expo 2020 Station and back
- Centrepoint Station to Al Fardan Exchange Station (Al Khail) and back (during peak hours only)
These new routes aim to streamline passenger flow, particularly during the busiest times: 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. By reducing overcrowding, RTA expects commuters to experience shorter journeys and smoother travel.
Keeping Pace with Dubai’s Growth
The move reflects Dubai’s ongoing efforts to enhance urban mobility as the population grows. Since its launch in 2009, the Dubai Metro has transformed public transport in the emirate. The Red Line was the first phase, followed by the Green Line in 2011, both expanding to meet rising demand.
By 2029, Dubai is set to unveil the much-anticipated Blue Line, further strengthening its world-class metro network.
A Sustainable Transport Vision
The RTA emphasized that these upgrades are part of Dubai’s larger sustainable mobility strategy, making public transport not just efficient but also environmentally friendly. With enhanced connectivity across key business and residential hubs, the Dubai Metro Red Line continues to be a vital lifeline for residents and visitors alike.
