Dubai has once again made global headlines after the Dubai Mallathon, held at Dubai Hills Mall, set a new world record for the largest indoor mall run. Adding to the significance of the milestone, the Dubai Immigration Department (GDRFA Dubai) proudly participated under the leadership of Major General Obaid Muhair Bin Suroor, Deputy Director General of GDRFA.
A Record-Breaking Community Event
The Mallathon was launched as part of a fitness initiative by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence. Designed to encourage the public to stay active during the summer months, the program opened mall spaces across the city for walking and running sessions.
Last August, participants were welcomed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., giving residents, senior citizens, children, and even mall employees the chance to embrace exercise in a climate-controlled environment. This inclusive approach turned the Mallathon into a social as well as sporting phenomenon.

Massive Participation and Global Recognition
According to the Dubai Media Office, more than 40,000 people took part in the Mallathon initiative this year alone, highlighting its immense popularity. The event’s record-setting edition at Dubai Hills Mall underlined Dubai’s ability to combine innovation, community engagement, and global recognition in one powerful initiative.
Officials emphasized that the Mallathon not only promotes physical activity but also cements Dubai’s growing reputation as the world capital of innovative sports and community programs.
Looking Ahead: Bigger Plans for Next Year
Building on the success, Dubai has already announced that the Mallathon will expand starting next year. From June 15 to September 15, malls across the emirate will open their doors for three full months, ensuring everyone—from fitness enthusiasts to families—can take part.
A Message of Pride and Gratitude
The GDRFA Dubai expressed pride in being part of the achievement, congratulating Sheikh Hamdan on the global recognition earned through the initiative. The department emphasized its commitment to supporting projects that inspire healthier lifestyles and foster community well-being.
