Red and Yellow Fog Alerts Issued in Western UAE: Abu Dhabi Police Enforce Lower Speed Limits

Red and yellow fog alerts have been issued for western parts of the UAE on Wednesday morning, September 10, as the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) warns of significantly reduced visibility. Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution, especially on major roads where Abu Dhabi Police have lowered speed limits to prevent accidents. The fog and humid conditions come after a spell of rainfall and hail showers across parts of the country, bringing temporary relief from the region’s intense heat.

According to the NCM, thick fog is expected to persist during the early hours of Wednesday, causing low visibility that poses challenges for drivers. Authorities have specifically reduced speed limits on Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road (Al Thamiriya to Al Ruwais) and Bo Hasa Road (Habsan to Bo Hasa) to ensure public safety. These measures are part of ongoing efforts to mitigate road hazards amid unpredictable weather patterns.

Meanwhile, convective clouds are developing over the eastern and southern regions of the UAE, typically linked to rain formation. Yesterday, several areas experienced rainfall and isolated hail showers, offering temporary respite from soaring temperatures. The latest weather predictions indicate that the country will experience increased humidity overnight and into Thursday morning, particularly over some western regions.

Daytime weather conditions are expected to feature light to moderate winds, contributing to blowing dust in affected areas. Sea conditions are forecast to remain slight, both in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea, posing minimal navigational risk for vessels.

Weather experts remind residents and drivers to stay alert for sudden visibility changes and prepare for possible slippery roads. The ongoing shift in weather patterns, from clear skies to rain and fog, reflects increasing seasonal instability that may impact daily life in the UAE.
