The accolade was presented in recognition of Dr. Vayalil’s swift and substantial financial aid to the families affected by the tragic Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad.
The calamity claimed the lives of several, including four promising medical students from B.J. Medical College. In the immediate aftermath of the disaster, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil extended ₹1 crore to each bereaved family. In addition, he provided ₹25 lakh each to the families of other deceased victims and ₹3.5 lakh to those injured in the accident.
