The calamity claimed the lives of several, including four promising medical students from B.J. Medical College. In the immediate aftermath of the disaster, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil extended ₹1 crore to each bereaved family. In addition, he provided ₹25 lakh each to the families of other deceased victims and ₹3.5 lakh to those injured in the accident.
