Abu Dhabi, UAE – In a major digital service overhaul, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) announced on Tuesday that UAE citizens can now replace or renew their Emirates ID card in a single, streamlined process. This step aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance smart services, reduce bureaucracy, and improve the customer experience across public services.
Previously, renewing or replacing the Emirates ID involved multiple steps, including filling out extensive personal information and navigating several application pages. The new system, fully integrated into ICP’s smart services platform, now allows citizens to submit an application and pay fees in just one step. Non-essential fields, such as the personal address, which are already present in government databases, are automatically retrieved, and the Emirates ID template is displayed on a single page for easy review.
Moreover, the validity of the Emirates ID is now automatically determined based on the applicant’s age, similar to the UAE passport system. For Emiratis aged 21 and above, the ID will now be valid for 10 years, while for those under 21, the validity is set at five years. ICP emphasized that these changes are part of a broader strategy to achieve zero bureaucracy, streamline the customer journey, and facilitate easier access to essential services for UAE citizens.
The new streamlined process is expected to significantly reduce waiting times and eliminate redundant steps, supporting the UAE’s vision of a fully digitized, efficient government service framework. The decision reflects the country’s commitment to leveraging technology for public service improvements while maintaining high levels of security and accuracy.
As the UAE continues to advance its digital transformation goals, this reform in the Emirates ID system not only improves convenience for citizens but also reinforces the country’s position as a global leader in e-government services.
