Dubai : Lulu Retail has been recognised with top honors at the Solar Week UAE Leadership Awards 2025, securing three major awards for its innovation and leadership in sustainability. The recognition underscores LuLu’s ongoing commitment to clean energy, circular economy initiatives, and sustainable retail operations.
At the ceremony held at DoubleTree by Hilton, Dubai Al Jadaf, LuLu Retail was awarded:
• Best Solar Project of the Year – Retail Rooftop
• Company of the Year – Retail Sustainability Leadership
• Project of the Year – Circular Economy & Waste-to-Energy
The awards were presented by Faisal Ali Rashid, Senior Director at the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, to Huzefa Moosa Rupwala, Regional Director – Business Development, Thamban K.P, Regional Director, Ajayakumar R Nair, Regional Director, Danish Khan, Sustainability Manager of Lulu Retail during the award ceremony held in Dubai.
Leading Solar Innovation in Retail:
Lulu received the Best Solar Project of the Year award for its large-scale rooftop solar initiative deployed across five major facilities in Dubai. The project, delivered under a 10-year lease model, is expected to generate approximately 37 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy, offsetting over 25,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. This impact is equivalent to planting more than 414,000 tree seedlings and represents one of the most ambitious solar rollouts in the region’s retail sector.
Project of the Year – Circular Economy & Waste-to-Energy:
Lulu’s innovative program converts used cooking oil from its stores into biodiesel in partnership with a certified recycler. This biodiesel is now being used to power LuLu’s logistics fleet across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and the Northern Emirates, significantly cutting operational emissions and creating a closed-loop waste management system.
Retail Sustainability Leadership:
Lulu Retail was also named Company of the Year for Retail Sustainability Leadership, in recognition of its broader sustainability strategy. In 2025, LuLu expanded its solar energy initiatives to two major sites in Saudi Arabia – Dammam and Riyadh, and continues to scale its biodiesel program across its GCC operations.
