Dubai International Airport (DXB) marked International Sign Language Day with special awareness initiatives highlighting the importance of sign language and the rights of the global deaf community. The airport’s activities aimed to educate travelers about sign language and promote inclusivity for people of determination.
Observed annually on 23 September, International Sign Language Day celebrates the linguistic and cultural diversity of the deaf community while emphasizing their human rights. The day also commemorates the founding of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), a global organization advocating for deaf people’s rights.
At DXB, the children’s immigration section took center stage for the celebrations. Brochures featuring colorful illustrations explaining basic sign language and its goals were distributed to children and their guardians, making the learning process interactive and engaging.

As part of the program, children arriving for immigration procedures enthusiastically participated by displaying the sign for “Welcome to Dubai”, creating a heartwarming visual for airport staff and travelers alike. The initiative received widespread support from both airport personnel and passengers.
Programs like these underscore Dubai’s commitment to inclusivity, demonstrating its dedication to integrating people of determination into society. By celebrating International Sign Language Day, Dubai International Airport sends a clear message that the emirate is prepared to accommodate and respect all members of society, removing communication barriers and recognizing the language and identity of the deaf community.
