Bengaluru | January 30: Dr. C.J. Roy, founder and chairman of the Bengaluru-based real estate major Confident Group, was found dead at his Ashok Nagar office on Friday evening during an Enforcement Directorate (ED) search operation. He was 56.

According to preliminary police information, Roy is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 5 p.m. Officers from Ashok Nagar police station rushed to the spot immediately after the incident was reported. The area was secured and forensic teams were deployed as part of an ongoing investigation. Authorities said a detailed probe is underway and further information will be released after official procedures are completed.

ED officials have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the raid or the circumstances surrounding the incident. Sources confirmed that the agency had been conducting searches at multiple Confident Group premises over the past several days as part of an ongoing financial investigation.

Business background

Born in Kochi, Roy pursued higher education abroad and earned a doctorate in Business Administration from SBS Business School in Switzerland. Before launching his entrepreneurial journey, he worked with a multinational corporation and later founded Confident Group in 2006.

Under his leadership, the company grew rapidly, executing large-scale real estate projects in Kerala and Karnataka. The group later diversified into hospitality, aviation, entertainment, education, retail, and film production. Roy was also known for philanthropic initiatives and community engagement activities.

He is survived by his wife, Lini Roy, and children Rohith and Riya.

Authorities are expected to release more details following the completion of the preliminary investigation. The business community and associates expressed shock at the sudden development.
