Kollam, Kerala: A 19-year-old youth was brutally stabbed to death during a temple festival at Kottiyam in Kollam district on Sunday night, following a minor altercation while dancing in front of a procession float.
The victim, identified as Sajeev from Mukathala Kizhavoor, was reportedly dancing along with a group during the Chembakassery temple festival when he accidentally stepped on another person’s foot. The situation quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
According to police, a group of youths attacked Sajeev in the middle of the road, stabbing him multiple times. He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his life could not be saved.
Police have arrested five youths in connection with the murder. Initial investigations suggest that the attack was triggered by anger over the accidental stepping during the festive procession.
The incident has shocked the local community, raising serious concerns about safety and crowd management during festivals. Authorities have increased police presence in the area to prevent further unrest.
