Several food and grocery delivery services temporarily paused or delayed operations in parts of the country on Sunday due to adverse weather conditions, citing concerns for rider safety. Delivery platforms advised customers that some orders could be delayed or unavailable as companies adjusted operations in affected areas.
During the mid-morning hours, dozens of delivery riders were seen stationed along Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) towards Dubai, as services were limited in certain locations. Talabat issued an in-app advisory informing customers of a delivery pause in some areas to ensure the safety of its riders.
Deliveroo also warned customers that they may experience limited restaurant and grocery options and longer delivery times. In a statement, the company said it restricts delivery areas during severe weather to reduce driving distances and immediately pauses operations if conditions become unsafe, resuming services once the weather improves. Careem similarly noted that deliveries could take longer than usual, as companies prioritised rider safety amid challenging weather conditions.
