UAE vows firm response after intercepting cruise missiles; three Indian nationals injured in “unprovoked” aggression.
ABU DHABI – In a sharp diplomatic rebuke, Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, has condemned Iran’s recent missile attacks on the Emirates as a sign of “moral bankruptcy.” The statement follows a dangerous escalation in regional tensions after the UAE Ministry of Defence intercepted multiple cruise missiles launched toward the country, resulting in injuries to three Indian expatriates.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that its air defense systems detected four cruise missiles originating from Iran. According to official reports, three of the projectiles were successfully intercepted over UAE territorial waters, while a fourth landed in the sea. Residents across various parts of the country reported hearing loud explosions, which the ministry later clarified were the sounds of the successful interceptions.
Escalation and Civilian Impact
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) issued a stern condemnation, describing the incident as a “renewed and unprovoked” act of aggression targeting civilian sites. The ministry emphasized that the strikes represent a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter.
“The UAE will not tolerate any threat to its sovereignty under any circumstances,” the ministry stated, affirming the nation’s “full and legitimate right to respond” to ensure the safety of its citizens, residents, and visitors.
Among the casualties of the strikes were three Indian nationals who sustained injuries. The targeting of civilian infrastructure has been met with widespread international concern, as legal and humanitarian norms strictly prohibit such actions.
“Iran Has Miscalculated”
Taking to social media to address the situation, Dr. Anwar Gargash noted that the regime’s choice to pursue aggression over diplomacy signals a profound failure in leadership.
“The targeting of civilians is nothing but the ‘moral bankruptcy’ of a regime that has chosen aggression while dealing with its neighbors,” Gargash stated. He further asserted that the UAE’s strategic positions remain unshaken: “Once again, Iran has miscalculated. We will not allow this escalation to shape the future of relations in the region.”
Regional Security and Outlook
This latest incident marks a significant flare-up in the Gulf, prompting the UAE to call for an immediate halt to hostilities. Abu Dhabi has held Tehran fully responsible for the consequences of these attacks.
For the global community and the vast expatriate population—including millions of Gulf Malayalis—the UAE has reiterated its commitment to maintaining stability and security, ensuring that national integrity remains the top priority in the face of external threats.
