Massive $300 Million Investment to Transform Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre into a Global Excellence Hub
DUBAI — In a major boost to its in-house engineering prowess, Emirates has entered into a strategic partnership with GE Aerospace to significantly expand its engine repair capabilities in Dubai. The agreement, signed on Thursday, May 14, 2026, aims to enhance the airline’s ability to maintain the high-performance engines powering its flagship Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 fleets.
The deal centers on providing technical and training consultancy for “piece part” component repair. This specialized maintenance involves the meticulous inspection and restoration of individual engine components—a move that gives Emirates greater control over serviceability, repair timelines, and long-term fleet planning.
Strategic Investment in Infrastructure
The partnership is a cornerstone of the ongoing US$300 million expansion of the Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre (EEMC). By scaling up its infrastructure, Emirates is positioning its engineering division as a regional “centre of excellence” for engine repairs. +1
The collaboration specifically targets the GE90 and GP7200 engines:
- GE90: The exclusive powerhouse for the Boeing 777-300ER fleet.
- GP7200: Engines utilized across a significant portion of Emirates’ Airbus A380 “Superjumbo” aircraft.
Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer, highlighted the importance of this step. “We are delighted to upscale our engine repair capabilities by investing in infrastructure and partnering with GE Aerospace. This will provide our workforce with the specialized skills needed for world-class engine maintenance,” he stated during the signing ceremony.
Strengthening the UAE Aviation Ecosystem
Beyond the airline’s immediate operational benefits, the agreement is set to bolster the UAE’s broader aviation landscape. GE Aerospace will provide technical consultancy for setting up the new repair lines and facilitate knowledge transfer to the EEMC team through global best practices and benchmarks.

Established in 2014, the Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre has grown to support one of the world’s largest wide-body fleets, consisting of over 270 aircraft. With the addition of the Airbus A350 to its fleet and continued investment in specialized MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) services, Dubai is rapidly cementing its status as the global capital for aviation engineering and logistics.
