The landmark initiative slashes logistics costs and accelerates freight movement through strategic Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings.

SHARJAH — In a major move to strengthen regional supply chains and enhance bilateral trade, Sharjah has announced a complete waiver of truck toll fees for cargo transport arriving from the Sultanate of Oman. The strategic initiative, rolled out through close cooperation between the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority and the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, aims to significantly reduce operational costs for logistics companies and accelerate the movement of goods across the UAE.

Under the new policy, freight trucks transporting goods through the approved logistics corridor and entering via the critical Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings will be exempt from toll charges within the emirate. To avail of this exemption, shipments must comply with the standard operational requirements outlined by the authorities.

Accelerating Freight via Strategic Transit Gateways

Officials highlighted that this initiative capitalizes on Sharjah’s unique geographic positioning and advanced transport infrastructure to optimize the UAE-Oman trade routes.

  • Khatmat Malaha Crossing: Located approximately 70 kilometers from Oman’s vital Sohar Port, this gateway is instrumental in shortening transit times. It connects directly to an expansive road network that links major ports, free zones, industrial hubs, and commercial centers across the Emirates.
  • Al Madam Border Crossing: Positioned strategically at the intersection of major transport corridors, this gateway interfaces with Mahdah in Oman’s Al Buraimi Governorate. It serves as a vital artery for import, export, and re-export activities, gaining even higher relevance with the rapid economic development in the nearby Al Rawdah economic zone.

A Boost to Regional Economic Competitiveness

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security stated that the toll waiver reflects a proactive national strategy to ensure the resilience and sustainability of supply chains under shifting global economic conditions.

This fee exemption is not an isolated measure; it is part of a broader, comprehensive package under the ongoing logistics corridor project. Freight operators will also benefit from accelerated customs clearance and streamlined border procedures designed to minimize bottlenecks and enhance regional trade efficiency. By turning logistical challenges into economic opportunities, the initiative cements the UAE’s standing as a highly competitive global logistics hub.
