Emirates, flydubai and major international carriers boost connectivity as DXB strengthens its position as a leading global aviation hub
Dubai: Dubai International Airport (DXB) is further cementing its status as one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs, with more than 40 airlines currently operating through the airport and connecting travellers across Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East ahead of the Eid Al Adha holiday season.
Alongside Dubai-based carriers Emirates and flydubai, several international airlines are increasing connectivity and passenger capacity to manage the expected surge in holiday travel. The expanded operations are aimed at supporting smoother transit, tourism, business travel and family visits during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
Dubai’s aviation network continues to play a crucial role in linking major global markets, especially across South Asia, the Gulf region, Central Asia, Africa and the Levant. The airport’s extensive airline partnerships and route network are helping maintain strong passenger movement while reinforcing Dubai’s role as a strategic global transit hub.
Strong South Asia connectivity
South Asia remains one of Dubai’s strongest aviation corridors, driven by high passenger demand from expatriate communities, tourism and commercial travel.
From India, airlines including Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo and SpiceJet are operating regular services to Dubai. Pakistan is connected through carriers such as Air Sial, Airblue, Fly Jinnah and Pakistan International Airlines.
Bangladesh services are handled by Biman Bangladesh Airlines and US-Bangla Airlines, while SriLankan Airlines and FitsAir continue operations from Sri Lanka. Nepal Airlines and Himalaya Airlines serve Nepal routes, while Ariana Afghan Airlines and Kam Air connect Afghanistan with Dubai.
The strong network ensures consistent travel options for Gulf Malayalis and other expatriate communities travelling between the UAE and South Asian countries during the festive holiday period.
Gulf and Middle East routes remain key
The Gulf region continues to form the backbone of Dubai’s aviation network, supported by high-frequency short-haul flights and strong regional partnerships. These routes play a major role in supporting transit traffic, business travel and regional tourism.
Dubai also maintains strategic links with Levant and wider Middle Eastern destinations, helping strengthen cultural and economic connectivity across the region.
Central Asia and Africa see growing connectivity
Dubai’s expanding links with Central Asia and Eurasia are supporting growing trade and tourism flows between Europe and Asia. Airlines such as Uzbekistan Airways and Somon Air are contributing to the region’s growing transit network.
African connectivity is also expanding steadily, with carriers including Ethiopian Airlines and EgyptAir operating through DXB. These routes are supporting both diaspora travel and increasing tourism demand while improving access to key African economic centres.
Emirates and flydubai expand operations
Emirates currently operates flights to 137 destinations across 72 countries, covering regions including the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, West Asia, the Far East and Australasia.
The airline said it is closely monitoring operational conditions and working to ensure smoother passenger connections and additional travel options during the Eid rush.
Meanwhile, flydubai continues operations through a revised flight schedule and has advised passengers to check the latest travel updates before departure. The airline said bookings and travel information remain available through its website, mobile app, contact centre and authorised travel agents.
Dubai strengthens global aviation status
The growing number of airlines operating through DXB highlights Dubai’s continuing rise as a major international aviation gateway. Increasing airline participation, expanded route networks and rising passenger demand are expected to further strengthen the emirate’s position as a preferred global transit destination.
With Eid Al Adha travel demand continuing to rise, Dubai International Airport is preparing for another busy holiday season while maintaining operational efficiency and global connectivity for millions of travellers.
