Humanitarian initiative reflects Emirati hospitality and Dubai’s people-first approach to travel services

Dubai | May 31, 2026

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai has welcomed pilgrims returning from Hajj through Dubai Airports with a special passport stamp carrying the message, “The UAE Welcomes the Return of Pilgrims.” The initiative aims to provide a memorable and heartfelt homecoming experience while reflecting the UAE’s longstanding values of hospitality and care.

As pilgrims arrived at Dubai Airports, they were greeted by GDRFA Dubai teams and a group of children who presented flowers and commemorative gifts. The gesture was designed to express appreciation for the pilgrims’ spiritual journey and create a warm atmosphere from the moment they stepped back into the country.

Major General Talal Ahmed Al Shangiti, Assistant Director General for Airport Affairs at GDRFA Dubai, said the initiative highlights Dubai’s commitment to placing people at the center of its services and transforming routine travel procedures into meaningful experiences.

“The return of pilgrims to their homeland is an occasion that carries profound spiritual and humanitarian significance,” Al Shangiti said. “We were keen to ensure their reception reflected the UAE’s authentic values of hospitality and appreciation while showcasing Dubai’s human-centered approach to service delivery.”

Dubai Airports implemented comprehensive preparations to facilitate the arrival of returning pilgrims. Dedicated lanes, qualified teams, and streamlined procedures were put in place in coordination with strategic partners across the aviation and border sectors. These measures helped ensure smooth entry processes and enhanced passenger comfort upon arrival.

According to GDRFA Dubai, the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to improve the traveller experience during significant national and religious occasions. The authority emphasized that such programs reinforce Dubai’s reputation as a global destination known for service excellence, operational efficiency, and a strong focus on human values.

The welcoming ceremony also reflects the emirate’s ongoing efforts to blend advanced government services with personal touches that strengthen community connections and leave a lasting positive impression on visitors and residents alike.

As thousands of pilgrims complete their sacred journey and return home, Dubai’s gesture serves as a reminder of the importance the UAE places on compassion, respect, and exceptional public service.
