The aircraft was en route from Arunachal Pradesh when the tragic accident occurred during landing in Jorhat; Court of Inquiry ordered.

JORHAT: In a tragic incident, five Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were martyred after an AN-32 transport aircraft crashed at the Rowriah Air Force Station in Assam’s Jorhat district. IAF officials confirmed that the mishap occurred while the aircraft was attempting to land at the airbase.

According to official sources, the co-pilot of the transport aircraft survived the crash and is currently undergoing medical treatment at a military hospital. Immediate rescue and relief teams rushed to the site as soon as the accident was reported, initiating emergency protocols.

The AN-32 aircraft was on a routine flight from Arunachal Pradesh to Jorhat when it went down in the vicinity of the strategic upper Assam airbase. The IAF has launched a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. “A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the accident,” an official statement noted.

The Rowriah Air Force Station is one of the premier and most strategic defense installations for the IAF in the Northeast region. It plays a critical role in logistical support, troop movement, and maintaining military operations across the sensitive forward areas bordering the northeastern states.

Further details regarding the identities of the martyred personnel and the condition of the surviving co-pilot are awaited as the investigation progresses.
