Tehran’s IRGC claims strikes on Ali Al Salem Air Base and Fifth Fleet headquarters are retaliation for recent US bombings; regional air defenses activated.

DUBAI: Tensions in the Gulf region have escalated drastically following a coordinated missile and drone attack launched by Iran against key United States military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain. According to Iranian state media, the strikes targeted the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain, marking a dangerous new phase in regional hostilities.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officially confirmed the operations, stating that the assault was executed in direct retaliation for recent US airstrikes targeting five Iranian coastal installations. The precision strikes have sent shockwaves through global energy corridors and put international forces on the highest state of alert.

In response to the incoming aerial threats, the Kuwait Armed Forces announced that their national air defense systems were instantly activated. Military officials in Kuwait City confirmed they are actively engaging and neutralizing hostile airborne targets within their airspace to protect critical infrastructure.

The Pentagon and the administration of US President Donald Trump are currently monitoring the situation. Security analysts warn that this direct confrontation between Washington and Tehran could trigger a wider regional conflict, severely impacting maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Geopolitical Context: This unprecedented escalation comes amid highly volatile friction between Washington and Tehran. The US Fifth Fleet stationed in Bahrain is a critical naval command responsible for maintaining maritime security across the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, and Arabian Sea, while Kuwait’s Ali Al Salem Air Base serves as a vital hub for US air operations in the Middle East.
