Dubai: Starting end of July, a new health law will come into effect in Dubai, introducing comprehensive medical regulations impacting employment, residency applications, and driving license approvals. The law, part of a broader effort to enhance public health in the emirate, was issued as Law No. (5) of 2025 by UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.The new legislation emphasizes preventive healthcare, with a particular focus on safeguarding the physical and mental well-being of youth, deterring harmful behaviors, and providing holistic health care for the elderly. Additionally, the law supports awareness campaigns against substance abuse and aims to strengthen Dubai’s overall public health infrastructure.One of the major components of the law is the enhanced role of medical examinations in regulatory procedures. The legislation outlines new guidelines and standards for conducting health checks related to:
• Pre-employment medical screenings
• Residency visa applications
• Issuance of driving licenses
• Professional driving permits
• Professional health cards
The law also defines the responsibilities of relevant health authorities in overseeing personal health services and ensuring adherence to updated health protocols.
