Dubai:Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uber Technologies and autonomous driving leader WeRide to kick-start pilot operations of self-driving vehicles later this year. The initiative, part of Dubai’s Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy, aims to make 25% of all trips autonomous by 2030.

The pilot phase will begin with safety drivers on board and will operate via the Uber app, marking a key step towards the commercial launch of driverless services in 2026.The agreement was signed in the presence of top executives from RTA, Uber, and WeRide, including His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General. Al Tayer hailed the move as a leap towards smart, sustainable mobility and reinforced Dubai’s global leadership in advanced transport solutions.Uber and WeRide will lead field preparations with RTA’s strategic support, as Dubai moves closer to integrating autonomous taxis and mobility solutions across its public transport network.
