Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai, and Air Arabia expand network reach, boost flight frequencies, and deepen global codeshare partnerships.

ABU DHABI — July 25, 2026:Airlines across the United Arab Emirates are launching a sweeping global expansion, introducing direct services to new international destinations, boosting frequencies on high-demand routes, and expanding commercial partnerships to connect travellers to thousands of destinations worldwide.

The aggressive route growth—driven by flag carriers Emirates and Etihad Airways alongside budget operators flydubai and Air Arabia—underscores the Gulf nation’s position as a dominant global aviation hub. The expansion targets a mix of primary international gateways, underserved secondary cities, and seasonal holiday markets to capture surging resident travel, inbound tourism, and international transit traffic.

Dubai-based Emirates, which maintains a network spanning approximately 140 destinations across six continents, will establish the only year-round direct air link between the UAE and Finland on October 1 with the launch of a daily service to Helsinki. To absorb growing demand on established corridors, the carrier has introduced a second daily flight to Copenhagen and added daily frequencies to both Phuket and Cape Town.

From Abu Dhabi, Etihad Airways has rapidly broadened its international footprint, adding Krakow, Palma de Mallorca, Damascus, and Zanzibar to its network, while reinstating popular summer seasonal flights to Mykonos, Malaga, Santorini, Nice, and El Alamein. The airline has also outlined an aggressive push into Africa, with plans to serve six key destinations—Accra, Asmara, Harare, Kinshasa, Lagos, and Brazzaville—while ramping up overall summer seat capacity by 10 per cent year-on-year.

Budget carrier flydubai continues to build on its strategy of entering unserved and underserved markets. Operating to more than 120 destinations in 58 countries, flydubai launched services to Benghazi in June and introduced Bangkok in July, quickly upgrading the Thai capital’s service to a double-daily operation. The airline has also resumed flights to Aleppo and scheduled daily services to Pokhara, Nepal, later this year. The carrier notes that over 100 of its routes previously lacked direct air connections to Dubai.

Sharjah-based Air Arabia has reinforced its European and Middle Eastern presence, introducing twice-daily flights to London Gatwick and launching services to Rome Fiumicino, Alongside direct flights to Aleppo. Its capital subsidiary, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, has strengthened Levant connectivity by adding Aleppo and Amman Civil Airport, alongside increased flight frequencies to Damascus.

Beyond expanding point-to-point routes, UAE airlines are expanding interline and codeshare agreements to widen global reach. By late March, Emirates had secured 32 codeshare and 117 interline partnerships, offering passenger access to over 1,700 global destinations. Its flagship partnership with flydubai alone connects passengers to more than 240 destinations across 100 countries with single-ticket baggage and check-in integration.

Similarly, Etihad now operates 46 codeshare and over 130 interline partnerships, unlocking access to 350 global points. Recent agreements include a codeshare deal with Uzbekistan Airways and an interline arrangement with West African carrier Air Peace, extending Abu Dhabi’s connectivity across Nigeria and West Africa through hubs in Lagos and Accra.

The coordinated expansion aligns with the UAE’s broader national economic strategy, tapping into the travel demands of its multi-national resident base while locking in long-term aviation leadership.
