MUSCAT — Tourists traveling to Oman from more than 100 eligible countries can enter the Sultanate visa-free for up to 14 days, provided they satisfy key entry criteria laid down by Omani immigration authorities.
The Royal Oman Police (ROP) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have outlined specific rules governing the 14-day tourist entry facility designed to streamline international travel and boost the nation’s tourism sector.
Key Requirements for Visa-Free Entry
To qualify for the 14-day exemption upon arrival, visitors must present:
- A passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival.
- A confirmed return or onward flight ticket.
- A valid hotel reservation covering the duration of the visit.
- Comprehensive health insurance policy covering emergency medical care.
- Proof of sufficient financial funds to cover living expenses during the stay.
Under the regulations, eligible nationalities are divided into two primary categories. Travelers in the first group—including citizens of Schengen area countries, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and South Korea—can access the 14-day facility directly.
Travelers from the second group, which includes nationals of India, Egypt, Jordan, and several other countries, qualify for the 14-day exemption if they hold a valid entry visa or residence permit from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Japan, or a Schengen state, or hold valid residency in a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) country.
Strict Limits and Extension Rules
Immigration authorities emphasized that the 14-day visa-free stay is strictly non-extendable and cannot be converted into any other form of residency or employment visa.
Travelers who intend to remain in Oman longer than 14 days must apply for standard tourist visas—such as a 10-day, 30-day single entry, or one-year multiple entry visa—prior to travel through the official Royal Oman Police eVisa portal (evisa.rop.gov.om).
Overstaying the permitted 14-day period incurs a fine of 10 OMR (approximately $26 USD) per day, calculated upon departure.
Authorities advise all travelers to verify their eligibility on official government portals before finalizing flight and accommodation bookings.
