TEL AVIV / TEHRAN — August 8, 2026:Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is reportedly in critical condition and has been rushed to a medical facility, according to Israeli media reports and Iranian opposition outlets citing sources inside the regime.
The reports, initially broadcast by Israel’s Channel 14 and supported by reporting from IranWire, indicate that the 56-year-old leader’s health has deteriorated significantly. Sources close to President Masoud Pezeshkian’s administration reportedly disclosed that Khamenei’s condition is “extremely critical,” with rumors circulating among high-ranking Iranian officials that his death may be imminent.
Mojtaba Khamenei assumed the top office as Iran’s third Supreme Leader following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during joint United States and Israeli military strikes on February 28, 2026. Since taking office, he has not made a single live public or television appearance, conducting official business exclusively through written directives and audio-free releases.
Speculation regarding Khamenei’s physical status has intensified in recent weeks. Intelligence reports previously suggested he sustained severe injuries and disfigurement during the initial February bombardment, forcing him into hiding and compelling him to communicate with cabinet members via a restricted network of intermediaries.
Fueling further concern over leadership stability in Tehran, President Pezeshkian admitted during a recent state television broadcast that direct communication with the Supreme Leader has become “very difficult”.
Iranian official channels have routinely downplayed reports regarding Khamenei’s health.
