Ras Al Khaimah : In a major infrastructure initiative aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving transportation flow, Ras Al Khaimah’s Public Services Department has announced the development of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road (E11). The project is designed to enhance road capacity and provide a smoother, more efficient travel experience for commuters.
The development will cover the stretch from Al Hamra Roundabout to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311), as part of a broader plan to expand and upgrade the emirate’s road network. Authorities confirmed that construction work will officially begin on the 1st of next month. In the first phase, the road will be widened to four lanes in each direction. A dedicated service road will also be constructed to help ease traffic movement. The project includes the installation and enhancement of essential utility infrastructure such as electricity, telecommunications, irrigation, and stormwater drainage systems. Energy-efficient LED street lighting will also be installed to improve nighttime visibility and safety. To facilitate construction during the initial phase, traffic along the E11 near Al Hamra Roundabout will be diverted through temporary alternative routes, including the construction of a 2-kilometer detour road.
In the second phase of the project, the road-widening will be completed and new bridges and tunnels will be constructed at key junctions including Dolphin Junction (S4), the E11–E311 Junction (D1), Red Tunnel (S3), and Mina Al Arab Tunnel (F1/F2). Additional lanes and routes will also be introduced to further ease congestion. During this stage, traffic will once again be rerouted through alternate paths to ensure smooth progression of the works.
Officials stated that the project is part of a long-term vision to accommodate the emirate’s growing population and future development needs. By creating a modern, efficient road network, Ras Al Khaimah aims to significantly boost its infrastructure capacity and support sustained economic growth.
