Al Dhafra region records the country’s highest temperature of the day as authorities urge residents to follow summer safety protocols.
ABU DHABI, August 12, 2026:The United Arab Emirates recorded a peak temperature of 49.7°C today, making it the hottest location registered across the country during the current heatwave.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the high was logged at 15:00 UAE Local Time in Sweihan, located in the Al Ain region of Abu Dhabi. Weather stations across the inland and desert stretches of the country reported sustained high temperatures throughout the afternoon, accompanied by elevated humidity levels along coastal areas.
Meteorologists attribute the extreme summer conditions to the prevailing seasonal low-pressure system, combined with dry winds blowing from the country’s southern desert regions. The weather bureau noted that coastal regions, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi city, experienced slightly lower air temperatures, but high relative humidity pushed heat index values significantly higher.
Health and municipal authorities have advised residents and outdoors workers to take precautions against heat exhaustion and dehydration. Guidelines issued by public health agencies recommend staying indoors during peak midday hours, drinking sufficient water, and adhering to mandated afternoon work bans for outdoor laborers.
The meteorology center expects high afternoon temperatures to persist across interior regions over the coming days, with potential opportunities for localized cloud formation and light rainfall in eastern mountainous areas toward the end of the week.
