ABU DHABI :The United Arab Emirates has directed $10 million in urgent emergency humanitarian aid to Colombia following a powerful earthquake that caused widespread destruction across multiple regions of the South American country.
The relief package was ordered under the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The funding aims to bolster immediate search, rescue, and rehabilitation efforts while providing essential supplies to families displaced by the disaster.
Emirati humanitarian agencies, led by the Emirates Red Crescent, are coordinating with international emergency responders and Colombian disaster management authorities to deploy medical supplies, shelter materials, food baskets, and hygiene kits directly to the hardest-hit municipalities.
“This aid reflects the UAE’s steadfast commitment to standing alongside nations in times of crisis and natural disaster,” said an official statement released by state news agency WAM. “The UAE remains dedicated to extending immediate support to alleviate human suffering and stabilize affected local communities.”
Search and rescue operations in Colombia remain active as emergency teams clear debris and deliver aid to isolated rural districts. Civil defense officials in the South American nation confirmed that critical infrastructure, including roads and power grids, suffered substantial damage, complicating initial relief logisitics.
The UAE’s $10 million contribution joins international relief mobilization efforts aimed at rebuilding vital infrastructure, mitigating health risks, and providing temporary housing to thousands of affected residents.
