GDRFA Dubai officers step out across major air-conditioned malls to support Sheikh Hamdan’s quality-of-life initiative during summer heat.
DUBAI:Officers and staff from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai turned out in force across major shopping centers this week to participate in the citywide Mallathon initiative. The program transforms the emirate’s expansive air-conditioned retail spaces into indoor walking and running tracks, giving residents and public servants a safe, climate-controlled environment to stay active during peak summer temperatures.

Organized by the Dubai Sports Council in partnership with major retail operators, the Mallathon aligns with the Dubai Social Agenda 33 and the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033. Both frameworks, spearheaded by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of the UAE, aim to position Dubai as a global leader in community health, longevity, and overall wellbeing.
GDRFA Dubai coordinated specialized morning tracks for male and female personnel across several landmark retail centers, including Dubai Hills Mall, The Dubai Mall, and City Centre Mirdif.

Immigration officials noted that integrating physical activity into routine schedules remains a priority for workforce wellbeing. The indoor tracks allow personnel to maintain rigorous health routines while avoiding external heat stress, while simultaneously building camaraderie with workers and visitors from other sectors across the emirate.
GDRFA’s active involvement underscores its commitment to employee welfare and reinforces Dubai’s broader public health agenda, which encourages institutional participation in community fitness initiatives throughout the year.
