Specialized training with Civil Defence targets chemical hazards, emergency response, and risk mitigation across industrial facilities in the emirate.
ABU DHABI, Aug 17, 2026:Industrial workers in Abu Dhabi undergo specialized training on the safe handling, transport, and storage of hazardous materials under a joint initiative aimed at minimizing chemical risks and reinforcing emergency preparedness across the emirate.

The Abu Dhabi Centre for Hazardous Materials Management, collaborating with the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority, conducted an intensive technical workshop at an industrial site handling chemical and hazardous substances. The program bridges regulatory oversight with field-level operations to protect personnel, infrastructure, and the environment.
Field experts from the Civil Defence instructed participants on core emergency protocols, protective gear deployment, and decontamination procedures following chemical exposure. The training relied heavily on the international Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) to build rapid-response capabilities during early-stage industrial incidents prior to the arrival of specialized first responders.
The syllabus covered the United Nations classification of dangerous goods—which categorizes materials into nine distinct hazard classes—and the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). Workers received instruction on interpreting hazard symbols, reading Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and managing chemical compatibility to prevent accidental mixing, fire hazards, and toxic vapor releases.
Proper segregation and storage of incompatible materials formed a key focus, alongside selecting appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) tailored to specific chemical profiles. Emergency response authorities emphasized that clear understanding of material properties directly reduces workplace injuries and protects local supply chains.
The collaborative campaign forms part of Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy to establish an integrated framework for hazardous materials management. By combining regulatory guidelines with hands-on emergency training, officials aim to maintain business continuity while upholding high safety standards across the emirate’s growing industrial sector.
