Dubai Police have seized a minibus illegally transporting dozens of gas cylinders in Al Quoz Industrial Area, warning that such reckless practices pose a serious danger to public safety.
Modified Vehicle Turned Into a Fire Hazard
During a traffic patrol inspection, officers discovered the vehicle had been stripped of its seats and converted into a gas transporter. Authorities said the unsafe setup created an extreme risk of fires or explosions in the event of a collision or leak.
Brigadier Jumaa Bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, stressed: “Transporting hazardous materials without approval is a criminal offence. A single mishap could have devastating consequences.”
Driver Faces Legal Action
The minibus has been impounded and the driver referred to authorities. Dubai Police confirmed that transporting gas cylinders without a licence or safety approval can lead to severe legal penalties.
Intensified Crackdown on Unsafe Transport
Police campaigns and road surveillance have been stepped up to detect such violations. Residents are also being urged to play their part by reporting unsafe activity through the “We Are All Police” hotline (901) or via the Dubai Police smart app.
Bin Suwaidan added: “Community awareness and cooperation are vital in preventing accidents and safeguarding lives on our roads.”
Not the First Case in Al Quoz
This isn’t an isolated incident. Last year, Dubai Police seized a passenger bus in Al Quoz that was also illegally transporting gas cylinders in violation of safety rules.
Strict Rules for Gas Cylinder Transport in Dubai
Under Dubai Municipality regulations, vehicles carrying compressed gas must:
- Be licensed and approved by authorities.
- Clearly display the transport company’s name.
- Ensure cylinders are secured upright.
- Avoid mixing different types of gas in one vehicle.
