Task Force Talon Synapse brings together American and Emirati specialists to accelerate battlefield artificial intelligence and safeguard critical infrastructure.
ABU DHABI — The United States Central Command and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to establish the world’s first bilateral military task force dedicated to accelerating artificial intelligence applications for operational defence.
The joint initiative, designated Task Force Talon Synapse, will operate out of Abu Dhabi and formally launch in the coming weeks. The specialized unit will bring together roughly 20 American and Emirati experts spanning artificial intelligence, data science, and cybersecurity.
The bilateral team will focus on three core operational areas: integrating AI tools directly into military intelligence support, enhancing the security of critical infrastructure, and monitoring regional maritime and territorial threats.
“This will be a historic milestone as we work with one of our most capable regional partners to rapidly deliver evolving AI advancements to our warfighters,” said Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command. “Together, we and our Emirati partners share a strong commitment to adopting AI applications that will foster innovation at speed and scale.”
The establishment of the task force follows initial discussions held last year between Admiral Cooper and Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s National Security Adviser and Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi. Momentum built last month when CENTCOM officials met with defense leaders and regional AI industry executives in Abu Dhabi to finalize operational parameters.
The military technology partnership reflects a broader strategic deepening between Washington and Abu Dhabi. Over recent months, the two nations have expanded defense collaboration across several domain areas, supported by the UAE’s early adoption of artificial intelligence initiatives, including dedicated research universities, state-level AI ministries, and commercial computing infrastructure.
Military planners expect Task Force Talon Synapse to serve as a fast-track engineering hub, turning theoretical software developments into operational assets deployed by frontline units.
