ABU DHABI — United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent a message of condolence to Norway’s King Haakon VIII following the passing of King Harald V.

Official messages were also conveyed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, alongside Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. The leaders expressed their sympathy to the Norwegian royal family and the people of Norway.

King Harald V passed away peacefully on Friday at Oslo University Hospital at the age of 89. His death marked the end of a 35-year reign during which he served as a unifying figure and head of state since ascending the throne in January 1991.

Following his father’s death, 53-year-old Crown Prince Haakon acceded to the throne immediately as King Haakon VIII. He confirmed his accession at an extraordinary Council of State in Oslo, adopting the royal motto “Everything for Norway”.

World leaders and international monarchs have paid tribute to King Harald, recognizing his service, humility, and dedication to his country throughout his lifetime.
