Military confirms mid-air detonations over the country as air defence batteries engage incoming aerial threats

KUWAIT CITY — September 2, 2026:Kuwaiti air defence units engaged and intercepted hostile drones and missiles early Wednesday, prompting loud explosions across several districts as surface-to-air interceptors neutralized incoming aerial threats.

The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces confirmed the combat activation of its air defence grid following incursions attributed to regional hostilities. In a statement released through the official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), military authorities clarified that multiple blasts heard across the country were the direct result of interceptor batteries detonating hostile targets in mid-air.

Air-raid sirens were briefly activated in several parts of the country as warning systems detected incoming trajectories. Civil and military authorities moved quickly to reassure the public, urging citizens and expatriate residents to remain calm, avoid open gathering points, and strictly adhere to directives issued by competent security bodies.

Falling debris and shrapnel from intercepted projectiles caused localized property damage in non-residential and open areas, though official channels did not immediately report severe casualties. Emergency services and civil defence crews were dispatched to inspect potential impact zones and clear debris.

The military posture across Kuwait remains at heightened readiness. Specialized operational commands continue monitoring sovereign airspace alongside regional allies to counter secondary drone waves or stray ordinance.

Security officials reiterated that the public should avoid approaching unexploded ordnance or falling fragments, advising individuals to report any unusual debris directly to emergency hotlines while refraining from circulating unverified footage on social platforms.
