Responding to a UN fact-finding report, Abu Dhabi calls for nationwide arms embargo and an immediate civilian-led truce

ABU DHABI — September 4, 2026 : The United Arab Emirates has firmly rejected allegations of supplying weapons or military equipment to warring factions in Sudan, urging the international community to halt all external military interference and expand the existing arms embargo across the entire country.

In a formal statement addressed to the United Nations in Geneva, the UAE’s Permanent Mission reiterated that the country has provided no weapons, ammunition, or related materiel to any combatant since fighting erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in April 2023. The response followed findings released by the UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan detailing cross-border supply routes and weapon flows.

Diplomats in Geneva stressed that the UAE cooperated with the UN panel in a transparent and substantive manner, submitting detailed written and oral clarifications. The mission emphasized that while the UN investigators acknowledged Abu Dhabi’s domestic regulatory framework for investigating illegal commerce and prosecuting private networks, all accusations regarding the conflict must meet rigorous evidentiary standards based on independent corroboration.

The UAE strongly condemned human rights abuses and international humanitarian law violations committed by both the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces. The mission reaffirmed its compliance with UN Security Council sanctions, which target designated entities and individuals fueling the violence.

Rather than selective restrictions, Abu Dhabi called on the Security Council to broaden the arms embargo beyond the Darfur region to cover all Sudanese territory, insisting that outside military pipelines to both sides must end without exception.

The UAE renewed its appeal for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire and a humanitarian pause to allow essential relief supplies to reach millions facing famine. The ministry stressed that any lasting resolution must come through a civilian-led political framework completely independent of both warring military apparatuses and regional extremist groups.
