Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a landmark initiative to accelerate the adoption of sustainable transport by installing multiple battery-swapping stations for electric bikes across key operational zones in the emirate. Developed in collaboration with Terra Tech Ltd, a leading MENA-based micro-mobility technology start-up, the project aims to transform the delivery sector by promoting zero-emission fleets, reducing operational costs, and supporting Dubai’s green economy goals.

The strategic partnership between RTA and Terra Tech Ltd focuses on developing an integrated system that meets the growing needs of the delivery sector, which plays a vital role in the UAE’s economy. Under the plan, 36 strategically located battery-swapping stations will be set up across Dubai, enabling delivery companies to easily swap depleted batteries with fully charged ones, drastically reducing downtime and encouraging the use of electric vehicles.

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, highlighted the alignment of the initiative with the Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030, which targets a 30% reduction in carbon emissions. He emphasized that the new infrastructure model is designed to fulfill the operational needs of delivery companies while driving the shift toward sustainable, eco-friendly energy solutions. “This collaboration is a major step toward embracing innovative technologies that reduce emissions, cut noise pollution, and improve service quality for residents and businesses alike,” Mahboob stated.

Husam Al Zammar, CEO of Terra, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting the significance of the initiative as the first of its kind in the region. He remarked, “We are proud to work alongside Dubai’s RTA to develop battery-swapping stations that empower the electric bike delivery ecosystem, reduce operational costs, and support the UAE’s ambition to lead in sustainable transport solutions.”
This initiative is part of Dubai’s broader vision to enhance its infrastructure and prepare for the future of transport, encouraging operators in the delivery and commercial sectors to adopt green technologies. As battery-swapping stations become operational, they are expected to set a precedent for similar sustainable mobility solutions in the Middle East, transforming how businesses operate in urban environments.
