Severe bottlenecks reported on Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street, Sweihan Road, and Al Ain Road as commuters face extended delays
ABU DHABI, Sept 15, 2026 : Commuters across Abu Dhabi ran into severe morning delays on Tuesday as peak-hour volume and a traffic incident stalled vehicles along several critical commuter corridors linking the downtown core with outer suburbs.
Tailbacks stretched through both central thoroughfares and suburban connectors. Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street took the brunt of the congestion, with crawl-speed movement logged through Khalifa City from sectors SE4 and SE6 toward the Zayed University interchange.
Closer to the city center, queues built rapidly around the World Trade Centre and Al Bateen along Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street. Secondary bottlenecks spilled into neighboring sectors, slowing traffic along Mubarak Bin Mohammed Street as well as Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street near Mushrif Mall.
A reported road accident in Al Rawdah exacerbated the slowdown on Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street, leaving outbound and inbound motorists backed up during peak commuting hours.
Long delays also plagued key routes serving the capital’s eastern residential areas. Heavy queues formed along Sweihan Road close to Al Falah, while traffic along Al Ain Road ground to a near-halt through Shakhbout City. Along Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street, tailbacks backed up near Al Raha Gardens, disrupting travel on the primary highway linking the capital with Dubai.
Traffic safety authorities advise motorists heading through central and suburban Abu Dhabi to allow additional journey time and monitor live navigation updates before setting off.
