Sharjah: The tenth edition of the monthly book discussion series organized by Pravaasi Books turned the spotlight on two notable works — Daivathinte Thakkol by Sabna Naseer and Neelanjanam by Anuvandana. The literary gathering was held at the Sharjah Indian Association Hall and attracted writers, readers, and cultural enthusiasts from the region.
The session was inaugurated by renowned writer and academic Murali Mangalath, who emphasized the importance of diaspora-led literary forums in enriching cultural dialogues. Moderated by Praveen Palakkil, the program featured in-depth presentations by Raghumash, who introduced Daivathinte Thakkol, and M.O. Raghunath, who spoke on Neelanjanam. Both novels were praised for their narrative depth and the way they explore human emotions through a contemporary lens.

The evening also witnessed a series of symbolic book launches. The second edition of Sabna Naseer’s Daivathinte Thakkol was unveiled by Shaji Haneef, while Anuvandana’s short story collection Nauka was released by her mother, Vasanthi Nair. The second edition of Neelanjanam was launched by Siraj Nair, and writer Murali Mash together with Jasmine Sameer released the cover of Sattar Vailathur’s new book. These moments highlighted the continuity of literary contributions within the Malayalam-speaking diaspora.
Several prominent voices from the community, including Unni Kottarath, Raseena K.P, Babitha Shaji, Rajeshwari Puthusseri, and Pratibha Satheesh, shared their reflections on the featured works. Authors Sabna Naseer and Anuvandana also delivered thoughtful responses, engaging directly with the audience on their creative journeys. Drishya Shine extended the welcome note, while Velliyodan delivered the vote of thanks.
Over the past year, Pravaasi Books has successfully hosted discussions on twenty different works, creating a vibrant platform for diaspora literature. With its tenth session dedicated to Daivathinte Thakkolum Neelanjanavum, the initiative continues to nurture dialogue and recognition for emerging and established voices alike. Events such as these not only celebrate literature but also strengthen cultural bonds among the expatriate Malayali community in the UAE.
